HB 10, RLD Cannabis Enforcement Bill, Passes Senate and Heads to Governor’s Desk
Santa Fe, NM – House Bill 10 (HB 10), sponsored by Representative Doreen Gallegos (D-Doña Ana), has successfully passed the New Mexico Senate and is now on its way to Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham for her signature. This legislation gives the Regulation and Licensing Department authority to enforce current cannabis regulations, marking a significant victory for a free and fair cannabis market in New Mexico.
“With the Senate’s passage of HB 10, we are one step closer to ensuring a level playing field for all cannabis businesses in the state,” said Rep. Gallegos. “This bill will protect the investment of New Mexico business owners who are being undercut by illegal grow operations and untested product.”
The bill garnered overwhelming bipartisan support in both chambers of the Legislature reflecting widespread recognition of its importance. Once signed into law, HB 10 will establish an enforcement bureau within the Cannabis Control Division of RLD and empower them to enforce current regulations related to the conduct of cannabis related business in the state.
Industry advocates across the state have praised the legislation for introducing much needed oversight and enforcement to New Mexico’s cannabis market. By vesting RLD with the tools necessary to enforce cannabis regulations, we are making an investment in growing the cannabis market and excluding bad actors.
“I am looking forward to the Governor signing this important legislation’” Rep. Gallegos added, “New Mexicans are counting on us for quality products and a fair place to do business and this bill is a critical step in accomplishing that.”
