House Majority Whip Doreen Gallegos
After graduating from New Mexico State University with an undergraduate and master’s degree in Social Work, she worked with youth support agencies and in private practice, and for the past 13 years has been the Executive Director of Mesilla Valley CASA, a local nonprofit that advocates for abused and neglected children.
Doreen points to her experience with children and families as key to her decision to seek the legislative seat. “Throughout my 20 plus year career, I’ve worked with families throughout this county and surrounding areas. It doesn’t matter whether they are Republican or Democrat: they deserve good representation, access to affordable health care, and a quality education for their children. That is what I’ll work for in Santa Fe.”
She is dedicated to creating greater opportunity for the people of Southern New Mexico. “The people of our area work hard, and they want good lives for their children. We need to put aside the partisan politics and work together to create economic opportunity, and to provide the services families need to succeed.”
Her parents stressed education and service to the community. “When we talk about family values,” she said, “for my family that meant fairness, respect for others, and an obligation to make our community better. I want to bring those same values to my service as state representative.”
House Majority Whip Doreen Gallegos, along with House Majority Leader Sheryl Williams Stapleton and Caucus Chair D. Wonda Johnson, make up the most diverse caucus leadership team in the history of the United States. We cannot wait to honor them and their hard work!
